Larzuk Sockets — How Many Holes, When Do You Get 4?

In short

When Act 5 Larzuk sockets an item, it is not a random roll — he opens the maximum holes that item is allowed to have. You only get 4 if the item type can have 4 and the zone you found it in was high enough for that. Superior does not guarantee 4. Hell drops do not guarantee 4 either.

What Larzuk checks

ExampleMax sockets
Mage Plate3
Monarch4
Wyrmhide4
Some light armors2–3

1) Each item type has a socket cap Not every armor/shield can reach 4. Examples (data max): If the type max is 3, Larzuk never opens 4. 2) The area you found it in must be high enough The same Monarch can get 3 sockets from a low area and 4 from a high area (e.g. Hell cows). That is the rule, not a bug. Beginner line: pick a base that can hold 4, loot it on a proper map, then Larzuk.

What to do in practice

Spirit sword (needs 4) Loot a white Crystal or Broad Sword in Normal secret cows, then Larzuk. You usually do not wait for a natural 4-socket drop on the ground. Insight polearm (merc, needs 4) Same idea: white polearm → Larzuk. Do not expect frequent natural 4os on Normal cows. Monarch shield (Spirit shield, needs 4) Monarch can have 4, but a low-area drop may only get 3 from Larzuk. Farm Monarchs in high areas (e.g. Hell cows) when you need 4. Larzuk vs cube sockets • Larzuk: quest use, max sockets allowed in that situation. • Cube socket recipe: random count — save Larzuk if you need a sure 4. • Superior: Larzuk works; cube socket recipe does not.

Mistakes that waste Larzuk

• “Hell drop = always 4” — No. • “Superior = always 4” — No. • Expecting 4 on a type that maxes at 3 (e.g. Mage Plate) — Impossible. • Cube sockets always 4 — Random. • Only picking natural 4os on Normal cows — Starter path is 0os white + Larzuk.
