Spirit Shield — Farming a 4os Monarch in Hell
In short
The standard caster Spirit shield is a 4-socket Monarch. Monarchs only drop in Hell — not Normal or Nightmare cows. Loot a white Monarch and get four sockets. Strength 156 is the usual low-str 4os shield pick.
How to get one
- 1.
Farm dense Hell areas — cows, pits, Countess routes, etc.
- 2.
Pick up a white Monarch (use it if it already has 4os).
- 3.
Socket to four with Larzuk or cube (not Superior).
- 4.
Density matters more than one named monster.
Why Monarch?
Among common 4os shields, Monarch has a manageable strength req for casters. Paladin shields (Sacred Targe, etc.) are a different, often higher-end story. For a non-class-restricted first Spirit shield, Monarch is the standard.
Common mistakes
- – Farming Normal cows for Monarch — won't drop. That's the Spirit sword route.
- – Crafting without meeting 156 strength.
- – Only waiting for 15% ED Monarch for the first shield — plain white 4os is fine.
